Finding a telemarketing company
Telemarketing is a field that has attracted a wide range of providers, from the extremely competent professional to the at-home person who thinks it’s an easy way to make a quick buck. There are literally thousands of different telemarketing services available today, so how do you go about finding the one that’s right for your company?
Obviously there are a few basic things you’ll require from a company. You need to know that a particular service is affordable, that they have the kind of coverage your business needs (i.e. 24-hour, weekends, and so on), and that the telemarketing company can handle your business’s average call volume. However, there are a few additional considerations before selecting a company to handle your telesales. After you have run comparisons on various companies and have a short list of services that meet your basic needs, it’s time to call each one to determine some other very important factors.
Professional
The first thing you’re going to be able to gauge in a telemarketing company is their professionalism. How are you treated when you call them? Every person in the company, from the receptionist to the primary person handling your account, should be able to treat every caller with respect and efficiency. If possible, call in to a company that they service so you can get the customer’s perspective on the way this service comes across to the public. These are the people you’re hiring to represent your company, so you want to make sure that it’s a service you’re proud to hold up as representatives.
Knowledgeable
While there’s no real way to see if a given telemarketing company knows the specific field in which you do business, a call will give you a general idea of how well this telesales company knows their own business. The person you talk to within the company should be able to tell you what kind of calling they do, if they specialize in any particular areas, and what kind of conversion rates they’ve been seeing with their other clients (if applicable). In addition, if you do have the ability to call their service as a consumer, you can see how well their telemarketing team knows that business and hopefully get a good idea of how they will be representing yours.
Background research
All of the above is essential in selecting the right company to take charge of telemarketing services for your company, but even the most professional-sounding business may still not be legitimate or perform the way you’d hoped. Utilize internet searches, business directories, quality control bureaus, direct calls, and any other available sources to glean information about the most promising companies on your list. Larger companies, especially, should be researchable. What existing or past customers have to say about a company speaks volumes, and can either further recommend a good company or reveal a well-veiled bad egg. While all of these measures may seem like overkill in some cases, bear in mind that those in charge of your telemarketing are the most visible representatives of any business and you have a vested interest in making sure you select the absolute best fit for the job.
